possible scam!

Hi,

I just received some life insurance cover today from a reptuable comapny that says I applied online and had my bank details. I have never applied for this insurance and only thing I can think of is that the bank account details they have is for a little account I have, that I registered on a good number of cashback sites.

My online security is good, I use a separation windows for banking only and have up tto date anti-virus and malware protection and scan regularly. So only thing I can think of is someone accessed my bank details through the cashback sites, that I haven't really used in a few years.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Thanks for reply. The only place really who would know my banking details for this account are cashback sites.

BTW the insurance company that sent me the cover and who had my correct bank account details same as cashback sites is Engage Mutual assurance who do seem legit.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ask them where the application contact came from, they should be able to tell you

    Hi again,

I have now received 4 letters from 4 different comapnies where direct debits have been set up im my name. Its a real nuisance having to contact them to let them know it was set up fraudently. Someone mentioned on the savings and investments forums that it could be a practice called "slamming" were sales people in order to meet goals or targets do this sort of thing especially in the engery industry.

Some of the companies have passed it onto their fraud team, but since neither they nor I have lost any money I don't think they will follow it up too much.
Wonder if I am under any obligation to tell the police or if they would be interested in this level of low case fraud.

    many thanks for any advice.
