Really need to list a lot of items n wondered if it was worth waiting for a free listing day, any idea when there'll be one?

You usually get around 3 days notice, and i often see it announced on the ebay board (see my sig) before I even get an email from ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It depends on what you are selling and how much the fees will be.
Don't forget that you will have more competition at times of free listings.
There will be more people selling at that time, but not more buyers. Nobody ever decided to buy something on ebay just because they knew the seller wasn't getting charged a listing fee.0
