They would only pay out on a percentage of the fees they make from third party sellers at the most imo.
as written by amazon UK on the assosiates link posted above

"Your referral rate will be from 5% to 9% on items dispatched by Amazon and by third-party sellers. "
and from their faq
"
What are the advertising-fee rates for third-party items?
You earn from 5% to 9%, depending on your dispatched items volume, under the Performance plan. Third-party items are defined as any product sold by a third-party seller on our site.""And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0 -

I would have thought that too, in fact I did and said it in here. But amazon say different, so I must be wrong.
I wonder how it works, does the third party pay the commission, or do amazon automatically take it, and if the sale is through an affiliate they pay it to them, and if not they keep it for them selves?
Maybe an amazon seller can explain it.0 -
Amazon Associate program is great if you have a product that is not too expensive like selling books, cds, dvds etc as they are often the cheapest. You earn 5% commission so not a great amount on a £10 book (only £0.50) but you can sell lots and it all adds up.
Amazon only pay commission if you have referred the consumer and they buy within 24 hours. If the consumer comes back after that period you lose out and amazon still win. Nice of Amazon with all that money to really reward their partners hey!
Tip: If you target the consumer at the end of the buying cycle, i.e they've found the product they want and are looking for best prices, then you can make a good amount of money with them.
How are you going to get them to your landing page for them to buy will be the tricky part. As you will need to learn about SEO (Search Enginer Optimisation) or Google Ads to pay for listing. This then can offset any profits you may make.
Google adsense is often a good alternative when used correctly. It can pay anyway from £0.04 per click to £40 per click depending on how much the advertiser is paying for that click.
It depends how you are going to use Amazon as to whether its a good program for you.

I find the amazon programme a bit of a slow burner. You will make sales from their products, but they are minimal & without the assistance of better affiliate programs, it would be basically a waste of time. If you want to solely rely on making money from amazon then, best of luck to you !

Amazon affiliate is one option to consider in your site/ blog, it depends on your content and traffic you generate. What works for one person, might not work for another, good example of that two blog gurus both are millionaires from blogging, both wrote reviews on amazon affiliate John cahow and pro blogger.
One loves it and the other hate it, and these people get thousands of visitors to their sites daily. So what works for one site it might not work for another, depending on the contents and other factors you can chose which affiliate product to chose.0 -

amazon takes a cut from marketplace sales plus extra fees for pro seller membership so the commission probably comes out of that."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0 -
I have couple of question, one is quite obvious but I don't want to assume -
1. Amazon runs separate associate programs for each country - so if I get a visitor from US and I take him to a book he might be interested in - but they switch over to their home website - would I get paid the commission?
2. & the obvious one - once the visitor is referred and they went on to by more than just the referred product - would you get paid for everything that they buy?0 -
All - ignore the second question - it is answered in OP.0
