Re-training at 27 possible?

  • I am in Nottingham,

I actually have wanted to re-train as a P.E teacher but not sure if it is possible at my age :o
I guess I will look into it, I have been doing agency work for the last month but I was asked to run bent by a firm and the agency back up the firm and told me to get on with it so I left the lorry in Walsall and got the train home :rotfl: but that is another story I am "in" with a big firm a week on sat for an induction and could lead to a decent job but I think I would be happier with a new challenge and I reckon working with kids(secondary) would be a good challenge these days :D

    Glass half empty!
Hope you are well. I'm in the same area as you and work as a supply teacher. I LOVE it (am in Secondary), haven't found a job yet despite searching for nearly 2 academic years and going to multiple interviews:(.
I have heard its no longer possible to do the GTP route in Nottingham which I would highly recommend (if it were still available) as you're able to train in a school while being paid a wage. There's also the PGCE route. Please be aware if you do go down this route there is no guranteed job as it seems many people are being trained with no jobs to go to at the end...not wanting to sound too doom & gloom just being truthful.

If you're able to get CRB sorted and don't already- try voluntary work, supply work, summer camp work to beef up your CV and show your commitment.

Hope this helps? Also the times educational site is good for more advice.

I am lurking on all these boards as I want to go down the route you have. I am likely to be made redundant at some point, I'm 29 with a 2:2 degree in business and marketing. Have worked as an analyst - what should i study and how to i best make the transaction i.e. study just acca or aat first ... stay in fairly well paid job or go straight for it and try and get a basic job - how would i do this with no experience??!! Whats worked for you

    Lis

    Hi Lisa

Only just seen this so you are probably already a qualified accountant now!! :rotfl:

I am studying AAT (on certificate level at the moment) as I do not have a degree and did not feel confident going straight to ACCA. If you don't have any accounts experience (double-entry, VAT, trial balance) then you are probably best doing AAT first. There are 3 levels and you don't have to do all 3 as they are qualifications in their own right.

I don't know if you have been made redundant yet or not but I would study alongside your current job if you can. I am finding it quite difficult to get even an entry-level job at the moment. They don't care much for the studying, they just want the experience. I'm determined to do it though!!

I am currently temping in various roles so that I can jump straight to that accounts role when it comes up!

Hope you get to see this message :)
