Paying for holiday on Credit Card - a few questions please

I've got a holiday to pay for but Virgin have a 2.5% charge if paying by CC.

Questions:

How much is the minimum I need to pay on Credit Card for all of the holiday be covered? £100 or all of it? The deposit has been paid by CC, can I use a debit card to pay the rest?

Also, can I use 2 different cards for deposit/balance or does it have to be the same card for coverage.

Have a new Tesco CC and if I need to pay the rest on card I'd rather do it on there to get the points but I did not make the deposit with this card. If I cannot get points I'd rather pay with DC to save the fee. I just want to make sure I get it right as I'll have to whack a huge overpayment onto the Credit Card as the payment is more than my limit - just - and want to make sure it is not declined so I have to get it right.

Thank you.

    £100

yes you can pay the rest by debit card - or a different credit card, or cheque

you might want to think about paying just your limit on the Tesco card and the balance by debit card to save any overpayment bothers. Assuming the holiday company are happy - don't see why not. I've certainly paid in two bites on occasion.

And assuming the Tesco points are worth enough to cover the fee....

The only snag i can see (and it's very much hypothetical) that if you come to make a claim the two card companies may try to shuffle off liability onto each other.

  • Is this a holiday or just flights? Virgin Holidays are ATOL protected surely?

Is this a holiday or just flights? Virgin Holidays are ATOL protected surely?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

We are going to Orlando. The flights, V room and some attraction tickets were bought from Virgin Holidays using the Fly Drive option (we got 10% discount - if we had booked Atlantic it would have cost more). It does say on the invoice it is ATOL protected.

2 weeks of our accomodation was paid by CC - we have used a couple of weeks from our timeshare bank (RCI) for these, £175 a week, I am sure they are also ATOL protected as they complained about me getting flights elsewhere and they mentioned the protection, but to be honest it is a just a small amount and it is more the other larger sums I was worried about.

1 week of accomodation is at Disney and we bought that, and the Disney tickets, from The Walt Disney Travel Company directly (but based in the UK) it says it is ABTA protected in respect of insolvency.

    Also we have Travel Insurance.

So we are pretty much covered then? Thank you.

I was more worried about not being covered as a friend recently got scammed for 2.5k villa but they paid by cheque so wanted to be sure. I'll use my debit card to pay the rest then I think. The points I get from Tesco would be the same price as it would cost for the surcharge so if I do not need to use it then then I won't. The only bonus would be paying the next month, I'll pay Disney on the CC and get my points as they do not charge. :) 1000 Clubcard points is £40. I would have the deposit on Credit Card and the balance on Debit card then.
