  • The payments would be reduced as you would owe less money however you could still end up paying interest on the original amount before paying off the 30K. It really depends on when the interest is calculated.

    As for the penalty, it really depends on your deal but yes it can run in to the 1,000's as it's usually a percentage of the total amount owing.
