A pal of mine needs a new bottom denture and he was quite concerned about the cost in the UK. He is thinking about having a short break abroad and having a denture made whilst abroad.
Which countries are likely to be the cheapest for dentures?

Not just the cheapest but a very good hospital is the Shalby in Ahemdabad (India). A 5 star like hospital with all facilities inside the hospital itsself inclduing allowing someone to stay with you.
JUst google it...they do a lot more than just Dentures, but its amazing...0 -
Does he REALLY think going abroad for these is cheaper?!?! Has he actually priced them up rather than just worried about it????0

New bottom denture?
Hong Kong. They can do one in a few hours.
It's not like any surgery is necessary, so I'm not as anti this as going abroad for complex surgery.
But I really would doubt that when everything is taken into consideration, it would work out any cheaper.
There are a few cheaper places in India
How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Does the guy in the photograph have any qualifications?0

Hungary?
It was in the news some time back - this dentist has consultancies around the UK (in his tent), does the quote then you fly for the treatment:

He told me that he cost on the NHS is £198.
Thanks to others who have suggested far-east countries. Travel costs into account this would not be cost-effective.
He was wondering about the cost in countries like Ukraine or Albania - does anyone have any idea of the cost of a denture there.
Thanks very much for any advice and also to previous posters on this thread."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Just one point to think about, if the denture needs easing or adjusting (which in my experience most do), who will do that for him? Will he nip back to Hungary or will he pay a dentist here to do it? Just curious because if he paid £198 on the NHS then the adjustments would probably be covered.
I have probably made about 150 sets of dentures (partials included) in the last 5 years (not many compared to most dentists) and have only had two patients not come back for adjustments. I remember them because it's so unusual.
Edited to add to do you think £198 is unreasonable? For the time of two trained, registered and insured professionals?0 -

I personally don't think that it is unreasonable - I am merely trying to find out some information for a pal. He know that I spend a fair bit of time on a money-saving site and he is hoping (perhaps without any chance of success!) to have a few days away and some new gnashers for the same price that he will pay in the UK for the said gnashers.

Most dentures will take at least four visits to make .If you are lucky there will only be a couple of days inbetween each visit. If you were miraculously lucky they wouldnt need easing.
You are talking if a dentist is very quick a minimum of one hour surgery time and several hours of a highly skilled technicians time.Plus the costs of materials.
What is the cheapest flights, hotels, food in any of these places? How much will be left from £198 to pay for the dentures 50p???
They dont roll off a factory line, each denture is crafted by hand for an individual.
Even in the cheapest cost of living third world country there is no way you could do what he wants.0
