Cheaper Alternatives

I'm not sure if a thread like this has previously been posted, so please excuse me if it has. I was thinking earlier that there must be quite a few products that are cheap/better value and are just as good as more expensive ones, so I'd be interested to see what people's experiences have found. For me, I use Maybelline Mascara (the most recent purpley/blue one) and I got a sample of Chanel's most recent mascara which is really good, but the Maybelline is just as good and they both give the exact same effect. Therefore the Maybelline is a cheaper alternative to the Chanel one.
Same as I recently bought the Garnier Sensitive Skin lotion which is a cleaner/toner/eye make-up remover all-in-one that, I feel, is very similar to the Decleor all-in-one.
Anybody else used lower price range products that they thought were pretty much the same as more expensive brands?

Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

The thing I have found with cheap vs expensive mascaras though is the cheaper versions last me about 2 months before they are just too dry, clogged or there is not enough mascara left to give coverage without needing to double or tripple dip where as with the more expensive brands, they last me 6 months or even in some cases much longer. They also seem to clog less and make me feel special to use

But yes, Maybelline is the best out of the cheaper brands by a long shot. Loved the Collossal (loved everthing but the pale pink one) but they only last me 8-10 weeks.0 -
for me the biggest con is toothpaste, why spend £2 and up on a branded tube, when you can get a 10p value one from the supermarket..no difference0

Again, you do get what you pay for.
I have sensitive teeth. I use Sensodyne Pronamel. I have tried many other brands for sensitive teeth, supermarkets own though to colgate and many others. None worked, some made the problem feel far worse to the point where I was unable to eat, drink or even breathe through my mouth (the air hurt). I pay alot for my toothpaste. I do this for a reason. Not all toothpastes are the same.0 -
ive got the same problem too, but im more sensitive to cold thing. toothbrushes cause me more bother though, i guess its up to the individual ....0

I used to use jobaba oil on my legs after showering, as they get very dry. I later tried using baby oil, which moisturises just as well for a lot cheaper (although it doesn't smell as nice admittedly!)0

Corosdyl mouthwash - stains your teeth, sorts out gum problems after 4-6 weeks if your lucky - costs about £4
Hydrogen peroxide 3% mouthwash - whitens your teeth, sorts out gum probelms in about 3 weeks - costs about £1.25Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
With regards to mascara, I have decided that I will only buy cheaper ones from now on. I don't use it every day, but I like to replace it every 3-4 months, so it's not worth my spending money on the longer-lasting ones.0

I had the same problems and it worked really really well, the downside is it tastes of slightly of bleach but not overpoweringly and its hard to find, its up to the pharmacist if they want to stock it, I live in the sticks and only one chemist keeps it in stock, Boots and Lloyds refuse to as someone on tv showed how to make a bomb with this stuff:eek:and they don't want that responsibility, I kid you not, however when I mentioned this to my hygienist she said that she would prescribe it for me if I had problems but that kind of kills any savings:( Just have a hunt around and give it a go, it cant be any worse than the dreaded Corsodyl;)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0
