Hi

Does anyone know where (or IF!!) you can still get toy cars for the types of cars we actually see on our roads?

I remember when we were little, my brother had masses of Matchbox cars - Escorts, Cortinas, Capris etc...

All my son wants to play with are his toy cars and someone bought him a toy Ford KA (I cannot remember who got it for him to ask where they got it from), and we cannot find it anywhere - it was his favourite car (don't ask..!! lol.. my aunt drives one and he took a real liking to it!) :)

I have been in a few toyshops and got excited when I saw individual Matchbox cars for sale in Toys R Us for about £1.50 each..... until I looked through them - all of them were american models (big pick ups etc) and I have been looking on ebay, but they all seem to be collectors ones (mainly on plinths, expensive and don't look very robust!) :(

Any pointers in the right direction will be most appreciated!!

thanks in advance!!!

Have you tried searching something like this in ebay?

    http://toys.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=car&_sacat=73252&Type=Cars&_dmpt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&_odkw=mini&_osacat=73252&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313

Probably better if you can list specific cars eg. Mini Cooper in the main description.

Best bet is probably car boots, auctions, jumble sales etc. Toy fairs are full of diecast toys (about 80% of stalls usually). They can be expensive though as lots of people interested in them BUT they do also have 'rummage' boxes of cheaper ones ideal for playing with. ALWAYS barter though to get a good deal, especially if you get a few from the same stall.

Look out for them in markets and pound shops/home bargains etc. as well as products change all the time.

Also check the for sale adverts in your local papers and shops.
Local table top sales especially mums and toddlers/school fetes type ones.

    Happy hunting!

you can buy them in the car dealerships in there parts department , i know bmw do ( hubby used to be manager of parts ) and mercedes do ( he works there now ) so ford should sell them , they range in prices tho some can be very expensive , but bmw used to have little mini`s for a couple quid

failing that i kn ow weve bought quite a few at the £ shops as sometimes they do die-cast cars and they are proper makes
theres also charity shops in the kids toys section they sometimes have a few there

    hope it helps xx

The Corgi Heritage Centre in Heywood has a very good reputation for the sort of thing you're looking for. They don't seem to have a website but their details are
The Corgi Heritage Centre 51-53 York Street, Heywood, Lancashire OL10 4NR. Tel: 01706 365812.

There is a small ford ka made by a company called majorette. However it is a fairly old ka. Try small family owned toy shops as well. Hope you find one!
