Hi,

Intend to visit Blairgowrie soon, to try and track down some red gooseberries for my Mum, who grew up in Blair, but is chairbound these days. Does anyone in Perthshire know whereabouts I might get some?

Green ones would do, if the red variety aren't available...! I'm also after about 10lbs of raspberries-just to make the trip worth it!

recommend half way between coupar angus and meigle for your rasps - little stall selling fruit and plants etc at Longleys. There used to be fruit suppliers in golf course road - name began with an S (cant remeber their names for the life of me)- they would maybe have red gooseberries or try the farm shop in Reform Street they may be able to put you in the right direction ( top end of reform street between Quinny's old picture house and Perth Rd),

Farm shop is a great idea-thanks! Will try the raspberry tip too - nothing better than a recommendation.

If only the red gooseberry bush in the garden of Mum's childhood home in David Street was still there.. quest would be so much easier!

I spent every summer holiday at Gran's when I was young-Mum and I would eat gooseberries til we were ill - a mad dash to the outside toilet...

And every time it was worth it!!!!!!!

Skintbint, your recommendation was spot on - thank you!

Sandra and Raymond at Longleys were lovely, and I got GORGEOUS strawberries and raspberries for Mum - jam now cooling!

They also had plenty of gooseberries, albeit green ones, and then they let me taste some wocesterberries - small like blackberries, no bristles like gooseberries - but they taste like red gooseberries!!!!!

I HAD to buy some... In fact I spent £48 on fruit! Not very moneysaving, I know, but the look on Mum's face as she wired into the berries when I got home was worth every penny.

For anyone traveliing on the road from Coupar to Meigle, I implore you to stop and buy their berries - the best I've ever tasted!
