Alternative to Clinique Cleanser

I love Clinique comforting cream cleanser and have ran out, its now nearly £15 which seems a lot just for a cleanser. I do use wipes at night and I also have a Body Shop face wash to use in the mornings but somehow my skin feels better with a cream cleanser.

Shall I splurge on the Clinique or is there a cheaper but good alternative?

  • I use Origins Checks & Balances, which costs about the same, and even when I'm feeling really poor I still buy it... My thinking is that washing your face is a chore that you have to do, but using this cleanser makes it feel like a real pleasure, and I'm entitled to a little bit of pleasure when I get up of a morning :j Even if I have to dip into my Advantage card points to be able to afford it!

So I vote for - don't skimp! Sorry but I can't suggest any cheaper alternatives (there may be a cream cleanser in the Soap & Glory range - which would be I'd guess about half the price?)

Hi, thanks for your reply. I know what you mean, we need to treat ourselves. Thing is I use Clinique foundation, eyeliner and lippie aswell, though I only have one shade of each and I have cut costs by colouring my own hair now rather than pay £60 at the salon so I reckon I can splurge a little on skincare and make up :)

I've never used it so I'm not sure if this compares, but Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish is really good. Not much cheaper though, but you use a very small amount each time.

Lots and lots of people rave about Liz Earle's cleanse and polish. Unfortunately it had the effect of bringing me out in spots - I do have rather sensitive skin though.

If you buy it via qvc link you can use as much of it as you like but if you decide you don't like it can return it to them within 30 days and get a full refund (except for p&p). It doesn't have to be faulty or whatever. IMO this is a good way of trying it without totally losing out financially if it doesn't suit you.

I use this. My mum bought me the 'make up optional' kit for Christmas. I am still only halfway through the Purity facial wash, not sure how much it costs but it lasts a long time so is value for money. 12 months-ish from one bottle seems like a good deal to me, normally £5 for a facial wash (one that doesn't leave my face cling-film tight and itchy) which would normally last about 2-3 months at best.

have you thought of going natural ? I started the OCM method and i am so happy for it ! i bought the clinique cleanser, spf and cream too... but this oil method is working wonders for my skin, so i stopped using Clinique, the best thing is the cost it very little... i moisturize my face with jojoba oil...

i am starting to do my own mixes now, i love it so much !!..

i have tried and liked an alternative, being the soap & glory cleanser - think its called Clean Mary. i too am waiting for bonus time - which i expect is boots at end of august to get my clinique cleanser and something else i need.
  • Clinique is ghastly stuff; I see endless clients with troubled skin and they all use Clinique. Hmmm.
If you send me your details I will send you some samples of Swissdermyl products. Not cheap but a darn sight more effective than clinique!

I prefer to use Lush. They have loads of excellent skincare products, and they are handmade, and natural.

Some suitable ones: Babyface £4.10 (I have used, and its excellent, but I always wash off with a flannel, rather than cotton wool, as it does a better job, and my skin feels fresher), 9-5 Cleanser £3.95 240g (A new product, I haven't tried), and Ultrabland £5.75 45g.
