Wedding dress seriously creased; Now SORTED!

Hello,
Took my dress out of its bag to find the train and bottom half of it WAY more creased than I expected. Two hours hanging in a very steamy bathroom had zero effect. Held the steam iron close to it and pumped steam at it; zero effect. Had moderate success going over it with a blow dryer and while that got the lighter creases out, the deeper ones aren't budging. Tried holding the hair dryer really close to one of the creases and that resulted in a minor burn (thankfully it is tiny and hidden in the folds of the dress--fabric didn't change colour, but the texture went different) so that has put me off using the dryer on it. Any ideas? Wedding is on the 24th and I honestly haven't got money to have it steamed professionally; we're splitting hairs with the budget as it is. Help!!!

Fabric? Get the ironing board out and use a pressing cloth. Start off on a low setting and go from there. Alternatively, ask at the drycleaners. x0

The shop where we bought my daughters told us to take it back 2 days before the wedding and they will steam it free of charge and then keep it overnight until properly dried out. If you bought from a local shop give them a call to see if they offer this serviceNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Fabric is a layer of shiny satin, followed by a (visible) layer of organza, followed by a layer of matte satin (visible under the organza). All layers are equally creased. Here is pic (pic was taken before the dress was posted to me; it is more creased now):
What is a pressing cloth? I bought it online so haven't got a bridal shop to fall back on (I rung one and they quoted £75 to steam it for me).“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. My advice only as I do this all of the time. Be cautious with organza, it can melt if iron too hot. Start with bottom layers and work outwards. NEVER touch your iron to the fabric unless you are confident in what you are doing.
All else fails, can you hire a steamer?0 -
I think steam is the only answer - any family or friends have a steam cleaner you could borrow? Or even try asking on freecycle, you may strike lucky. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

How about ringing your local charity shop they often have steamers. I wonder if they could help for a donation?0

I'm too scared to approach this dress with an iron really; especially as the hair dryer on a medium setting burnt it. I think steaming really is the only answer. No one I know owns a steamer though, but I will approach my local charity shops tomorrow and see how it goes. Failing that I might have to buy a steamer on ebay. Can't really afford it, but it'll work out cheaper than what I've been quoted. Thanks for your help, all.“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Linda - would ironing through a damp towel do the trick? Only ask as this is how mum steams dad's trousers..!!
You could always ask at your local charity shop - they will have a steamer, and I'm sure if you made a donation to them, they would
happily steam it for you.Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
What about a local ironing service?

Charity shop is a great idea, I helped out at one as a teenager and my job was to steam everything, hot work!
Also, if you have a La Senza near you and ask nicely they will steam it for you, again, from my experience. All the lingerie is steamed as it comes flat packed and is always really creased. I know it might be a bit cheeky but I think desperate times call for desperate measures!
I really hope you get it sorted out.2010 Comp wins: Lamaze baby toy, Cushelle koala, Frusli bars, knitted monkey, nursery rhyme DVD
Christmas sorted for my LO (apart from Frusli bars - they're mine!)0
