Starting new job in the middle of the month

Hi
I got made redundant on 29 June but have since found a new job. I will be starting the new job on 14 July and payday for this new job is 21st of each month.
Due to being out of work for a couple of weeks and payday for my new job being on the 21st, I'll be a bit out of pocket with regards to monthly bills.
So my question is, would my new job consider paying me for a full month on the 21st but then deduct the difference when/if I leave the company in a few years? If anyone has been in this situation and has any help advice that would be great.
Thanks

One thing to find out is what period that pay covers. Where I work we are paid on the 15th, and it's two weeks in arrears and two weeks in advance, so even if you only started around the 7th (a week before payday) you'd still get 3 weeks pay in your first pay packet.
Otherwise they might consider a loan to tide you over...0 -

In all the companies I've worked you'd be paid the following month.
The 14th would be too late to include you in this month's payroll.
But if you ask HR and explain your situation they may be able to help you never know.
As far as getting paid a full month's salary for two week's work, I'd be very surprised if they agree, very unlikely in my opinion.
(I'm assuming they pay you on the 21st for that calendar month, but as said, it's worth checking).0 -
It's highly unlikely you would get what you want - effectively a different pay period to everyone else. It would just cause so many complications and extra work for whoever is delaing with payroll (not just this month but every month thereafter) for absolutely no benefit to the employer.
The best you can hope for is that the employer will push to ensure you get into the payroll run this month so that next month you get a full months pay.0 -
What you would be asking for is completely out of order even.
They will not change your pay period from everyone elses. That is impossible.
Also you need to find out what period does that pay on 21st cover. In our company that would cover 1-31st of the month. So if you starts on 14th, you would be only entitled to 14th to 31st in the first pay. But it takes some time to prepare the payroll, so unless there would be very special request from someone high up who would have absolute trust in you (in probationary period you can walk of any time or be fired, by law, why would someone pay you for days they have no idea you will be working for?) I wouldn't even include you in the payroll.
However - when do your bills go out? If this company is really reasonable, they should be able to issue you an advance for the days you worked let's say on the 30th. by cash or cheque.
We did it for some of our employees. We gave them advance for the days they already worked and then processed it in the first pay package (which would then be 6 weeks worth, the 14th of the month you started to the 30th of the same month and the month you are getting paid now.)0 -
Have you been signing on for JSA for the 14 days that you've been unemployed, or living off redundancy money from your previous job ?
If you've been signing on, you'll be due a small amount of benefits - and you could also speak to an adviser at the job centre before you sign off as they may be able to help you out, there's the advisers discretionary fund which can help with travel expenses until your first payday, and also crisis loans for food/heating costs.
I don't mean this next bit to sound harsh, but 14 days is a very short time to be out of work and already regarding yourself out of pocket with regards to monthly bills - this time around maybe try to put a small amount aside every month to give yourself something to fall back on at times like this ?Google is my friend ..... :j0
