Question About CRB

I have been lucky enough, after 7 months of unemployment, to finally get a job. As part of the initial paperwork the job has asked me to fill out a CRB. I've never had to do this before, but gladly obliged, and since I will be working with children in certain aspects of my new work I realised the importance of such checks.

However, I'm not really sure WHAT a CRB checks, I have no previous offences, no previous judgements, arrears, court appearances or even traffic offences....but does it check for something that's not specifically criminal?

Again, as far as I am aware, I have absolutely nothing to hide - I just don't understand what the form checks for and how it works, or grades the applicants, and how long it can take? Sadly I cannot start working until this form goes through!

A regular CRB check covers criminal convictions.

An enhanced CRB check will cover any arrests etc even if they did not come to court.

They are not interested in things like speeding tickets or your credit rating and the like.

They can take 4-6 six weeks to come through, although usually quicker. For the majority of folks with no convictions, etc it is just another piece of paperwork.

an enhanced CRB will also cover the Police data base which has not only arrests, but also ongoing investigations, about which the investigated person may know nothing - they won't receive notice of that with their copy of the CRB, but the supporting company/employer will be made aware.
