Can I freeze doughnuts?

Okay, I went a little mad in Tesco's and bought quite a few packs of reduced doughnuts and cakes. They are the chocolate covered doughnuts and also just normal ring doughnuts.
Now, me and my OH will never (okay we could if we tried but erm) eat all them before they go off, so can I freeze them? Will they defrost ok?
My OH is always adamant that freezing cakes and bread is bad as mould still grows. He states that the rate at which the mould grows is just reduced.
I disagree with the above but am I right?? Please help, thought I was being good buying some reduced treats however I don't want them to go to waste!
TIA

The doughnuts will last for 2-3 days comfortably before getting dry - if you get custard ones keeping them in the fridge keeps the custard fresh.
Probably another 2-3 days you could keep them, slice them up with some custard or jam/chocolate sauce and warm them through in the microwave for pudding.
This thread suggests you can freeze, with some caveats.
Personally I can eat a bag of 5 doughnuts for 25p within 24 hours, so the problem doesn't really arise. :-)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I freeze pastries all the time - never had any problems. Some things might taste less good after freezing, but I've found doughnuts to be fine.0

I buy the trays of 24 with the chocolate and the pink frosting from ASDA when they are reduced to 50p, bag them and freeze them, they don't suffer any ill effects from freezing them, takes a couple of hours to let them defrost and they are as good as they were before.0
