Missing No Claims Bonus?

I have tried searching for the answer but couldn't find any similar threads.
I have around 12 yeqars no claims bonus, however a succession of insurance companies I have insured with over the last few years only show up to 6 years on the renewals. This year after my Insurance went up significantly it seems that this is going to compound my problem as any new insurers only accept renewals up to 2 years old as proof.
I have a renewal from three years ago saying I have 6 years or more NCD, and after being with my current insurer for three years was expecting current renewal to say 9 years or more but again says 6 years, this is despite having no claims. I rang them and they said they only allow a maximum of 6 years NCD on their system.
Are they legally obliged to provide an accurate NCD or are they within their rights to leave me with a maximum of 6 years?
Thanks

certain usually cheaper insurance companies only acknowlege NCD up to a maximum they set. This is probably where the problem has come from. If you check the T&Cs for your recent insurance companies you may see this.
As far as I am aware they are in their rights to do this and you just have to be careful who you sign up with0 -
As this is commonplace you should really keep a paper chase of renewal invites to be able to prove it to any insurer offering a bit more discount if you have in excess of the normal max of 5 years NCD.0

I do have the paper chase as explained above for 9 years but all the insurers I have talked to say the only one they will accept is my current renewal thus rendering my previous renewal useless up to now and leaving me only 6 years.
Was just wondering if this was normal practice, getting the feeling it is.0 -
Does the insurer you have in mind give a bigger discount to those with more than 5 years NCD?
If so, write and prove the 9 years. But if no extra discount is on offer, then there is no point pursuing the issue.
If you ever make a fault claim and you have unprotected bonus of (say) 9 years, then at renewal it will go down 2years from the max of 5 (ie you will have 3 years NCD for the following year no matter how many years you have been able to prove.)0 -
Yes some of those I contacted had between 6 and 9 years.
On a positive note LV have told me they will accept my declaration for more than 6 years as long as when they check with the RAC (my current company) they confirm that 6 years is the max they offer.0 -
Send them copies of all your renewal notices. As long as the most recent notice is less than 2 years old and there are no breaks in the coverage then I think you've proven your entitlement.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
