Making own chair covers

Hey just wondered if anyone has tried this and if so how did it turn out (pics would be great) What kind of material did you use. I have found a clip on youtube which gives a basic idea of how to cover a chair but not sure how good it would look. Just thought this would be a great place to save as chair covers work out so expensive when you have a lot of guests. My chairs are sort of like garden chairs with arms if that helps.
