Places to Eat Near North Berwick

No its only opened recently and not heard anything about it. Am too skint to eat out other than the chippy and pizza occasionally but there are a couple of places in Dunbar [about 10 miles from North Berwick] that get good reviews. The Rocks which is also a hotel and the Creel which is a fairly small seafood restuarant down by the harbour.

As well as the food its a very nice area by the sea and John Muir Country Park etc. Enjoy your visit.:)0 -
The Villagle Inn opposite Dirleton Castle was pretty good when we were there a month or so back.
Sorry can't remember the exact name of the place.
Edit : The Castle Inn0 -
The Kilspindie hotel (although think the restaurant is under another name now) is lovely. We had our wedding reception there and have been back since and has lovely food!
also The grange in North Berwick is also lovely0 -
Hope this isn't too late, if you are willing/able to spend a wee bit extra in return for a superb meal I would highly recommend Chez Roux at Greywalls. We were there 2 weeks ago and we absolutely loved it.
The weather was beautiful and we had pre-dinner drinks outside, the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient and the food was superb. If you can reserve a table then I doubt that you would be disappointed. Enjoy!0 -
Going to North Berwick for 4 nights and looking for good places in the vicinity for lunch and dinner. Has anyone been to the Roux Brothers restaurant at Greywalls?
Hiyas - not been there yet but can recommend:
Dunbar: The Rocks & the Creel. For pub grub, The Volunteer Arms
East Linton: The Crown
Gifford: The Tweeddale Arms
Swinton: The Wheatsheaf
Eyemouth: Fish & Chips and feeding the grey seals in the harbour...

there's a few nice places in haddington not to far away from north berwick. I would personally recommend jaques and lawrence as they serve good quality local food at reasonable price's. If it's a sunny day they have nice gardens you can sit in round back. the staff are also friendly and there to help. there open for breakfast and lunch.0

We ate in a real mixture of places. First night we ate in the restaurant in the Marine Hotel where we were staying, the meal was pretty good, certainly the best we've had in a MacDonald's Hotel, although the bill did come to £97 (3 courses for 2 people, 2 glasses of wine, bottle of water and 2 coffees).
2nd night complete change, Bella Italia in the main street in North Berwick. Good old fashioned pizza and pasta and very drinkable carafe of red wine! (Would also like to try the other formal italian restaurant in North Berwick if we go again)
Next night we had excellent fish and chips in the North Berwick Fry.
On the last evening we went to Chez Roux at Greywalls. The meal was very good although I had scallops and black pudding for my main course and the portion size wasn't huge - it certainly would not have been enough for my husband. We also had quite a long wait between our main course and pudding although the manager did apologise profusely. The lemon tart was worth waiting for. The reason I detailed the cost of our meal at the Marine was that the same number of courses, wine, water, coffee actually cost less at Greywalls £91. There is also a £25 set 3 course + coffee menu at Chez Roux which is very good value for this class of restaurant.
I would also recommend the german cake shop & cafe (Falko?) in Gullane and the tea-room in Tynninghame.
I'm now trying to loose all the weight I put on in 4 days!0 -

Have heard good reviews about the cafe in Gullane several times now, it queued out the door. Only recently did someone mention the tea room at Tynninghame again in a very positive light. If anyone is visitiing Tynninghame, I would not leave before a visit to the beach, or at least to enjoy the view from the top of the crags on a clear day!0 -
