Hi
I have today been offered a job which would be completely working from home.
I rang the tax office to ask about claiming expenses for doing so and told its a flat rate of £2 a week that I can claim. Fine.
I also asked about the fact I would have to visit the office maybe once a month for a team meeting, could I claim any mileage allowance?
I was told NO. I have read through all the posts on the forum about this and thought I would be allowed to claim?
He said not a business expense.

If it's to a regular place of work then no, you can't claim anything, as would be classed as ordinary commuting. At least working at home you get to save the rest of the time tho!0

As far as I know it may well depend upon how your contract is written and where you normal place of work is. If your regular place of work is at home then you should be able to claim mileage for attending meetings etc at a company office. You can also claim more than £2 per week for a home office if you keep a log of expenses you can prove were used for business purposes.
