Dropshipping

Many of you may not of heard of dropshipping, but is quite a good way to make a bit of money.

To cut a long story short, you will advertise a product for sale, whether it be on your own website, eBay etc. Be aware, at this point, you don't physically have the product.

One the product has sold, you order it from your dropshipper, with the money the customer has paid. The dropshipper then sends the item directly to the customer.

Therefore, it's a good way to get started as you don't need any capital to set up and you also don't have to deal with the goods.

Hope this helps a few of you.

Dave :)

It is an interesting method but a dangerous one too. On eBay your buyers expect to receive the bought/won item within a week or so. If you're working with a dropshipper, you'll probably keep the customer waiting for a month or so. How are you going to plausibly explain this to the customer?

I've been selling dropshipped t-shirts from a website (not ebay) and a certain portion of customers was always grumpy about the waiting time. Not that I didn't make money. I did :)

Then, how will you select a trustworthy dropshipper? Alibaba is one option but please be aware that you don't need to present any documentation in order to start offering wholesale stuff on Alibaba. I mean, anyone can do it and this "anyone" can be a swindler. The usual swindling method is obvious - you sell the item, send the dropshipper the dosh and he doesn't send the item to the customer. What will you do? Fly to China?

It is much easier if your dropshipper is located in your country.

So, bigdave, can you share a bit more? How do you find a good dropshipper?

You don't have to keep the customer waiting. So long as you find a good dropshipper and keep a good rappor then you will get the product to your customer within a couple of days.

As for finding a good dropshipper, that's the secret.

Plenty of hard work and searching to find the correct products and correct prices.

It won't just jump out infront of you, but can be good once found.

True, but that's the gamble you take I guess.

You pay the fee to get started.

There are lots of different dropshippers that are based in the UK thus elevating the need to use somewhere such as alibaba.

Google Dropshippers and then the product you want to sell. Then just talk to them.

    Cheers

Just to warn everyone to be EXTREMELY wary of companies who may contact ebay members, asking them to use their selling accounts in order to sell the drop shipping company's products on ebay. I recently won an ebay dispute because the items I bought never arrived and it turns out that the seller was scammed by a drop shipping company. They told her she'd receive 10% of the proceeds, but the company never bothered to despatch their products and the seller was left with lots of angry customers (including myself) who didn't receive their items.

She will likely now be hounded by Paypal for all of the money which had to be returned to the disappointed buyers.

    So please beware!

But remember that scammers will tell you exactly the same as a reputable dropshipper, and sound just as honest.
