    hiya blondie

velvetgloves guide has a great list of sites to avoid,
& the guide is a great help to get all the info needed for here & comp questions..

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1014121

11 Are there any sites, from experience, which are likely to generate lots of spam?
There are a few which have come to our collective attention as sites that, when used for comps, seem to generate lots of unwanted postal, email & phone call attention. These are listed below for your information, however, please do remember that this is only the collective opinion of other MSE Compers & does not necessarily reflect upon the sites themselves.

    2minutedraw
    4FreeUK
    ABCWins
    Clash Club/Clash media
    Club La Costa
    Consumer Lifestyles
    Consumer Opinions
Craftomatic Beds (Comps appear to be just a way to get a salesman into your home, especially if vulnerable/alone)
    Emailinform
    EZ Prize Giveaway
    Fair Exchange
    GetMeATicket
    GetYourBillsPaid
    GreatUKsurveys
    Guide2Win
    InstantPrizeDraw
    Just-Rewards
    Lingscars
MyChild (pester with phone calls quite badly, but Compers have won with them - suggest do not give a phone number!) New owners since 2009, who do not ring out now. Will be removed from here totally once the word is out!
    MyConsumer
    MyFamilyUK
    MyOffers
NoizeMakesEnemies (Care - your profile with name, address, phone number & email appear to be on show with no way to make it private!!)
Nuts (comps.nuts.co.uk - comps are now run by the data collecting company Data Media & Research Ltd.)
    OffersClick
    Opinioniser
Optimax (phone calls, letters & emails!)
PickMeUpMagazine (comps.PickMeUpMagazine.co.uk - Care: the magazine comps seem to be unaffected, but any comps which direct to this site are run by the data collecting company Data Media & Research Ltd)
Premier Christian Radio (lots of postal junk mail even when you opt out of future contact)
    Prize4U
    Plum Offers
    PrizePunch
    RewardsToday
    Simple2Win
    SupremeOGlaze (linked to Weatherseal below)
    Space Kitchens (see thread here)
    Tickbox
    Topfox
    Toyhound
    UK-PrizeDraw
    VoiceInACrowd
    Vouch4me
    Weatherseal
    Weather Wherever
Willowbrook (chairs) (have pestered with phone calls quite badly on some comps - see here and also here)
    Win 4 Now
    Win24
Zenith Windows (linked to Weatherseal above)

wasn't quite sure where to post's this! decided to post in the inn so more people would see it ;)

after reading about Skimlinks and the information that it sends I thought to myself I wonder what other information is disclosed when posting on MSE and so I decided to dig a little deeper

I first found this site which displays Competitions Time group user activity
    http://boardreader.com/fp/www_moneysavingexpert_com_13475/Competitions_Time_597926.html

and was then amazed to find this site which tracks every MSE's user activity
    http://www.boardtracker.com/profile/3706/493519

the number at the end of the link is your member profile no/id the site displays user activity on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and shows it on a graph

the free version doesn't display much but quite worryingly there is a premium version which promises the following
Member Ego Network gives an insight into members' social activity and network, helping you understand who they interact with, how much and in what nature. Do they lead discussions or led by others? isolated, or have many friends? follow or lead within their own personal network? How much do their friends post and do they also communicate between themselves? Who are the dominant players in the network? and much more... Is this member an Opidion Leader? Greeter? Answer person? Question person? Initiator? Drive-by shooter? Networker? Maybe a spammer?
AuthorLines gives an insight into members posting activity over the past year, helping you understand who a member is? Do they post mainly in their own threads or in other people's? heavily discuss matters or post once and move on? post in many discussions or just few? post more now than in the past or have they left the board recently? Move beyond just understanding the post to fully understanding who is behind it... Together with Member Ego Network, you can quickly understand who members REALLY are!
to say I'm shocked by the above is an understatement :eek:

I feel that everyone has a right as to what is downloaded and disclosed by there computer and they also have the right to block content which they do not like ;)

if like me you feel the same and you are using Firefox download the add-on Add Block Plus and in preferences add the following filter rules

    Skimlinks

Think that maybe I should stop digging as I'm beginning to frighten myself

however I will leave you with this the information on the following pages

I first found this site which displays Competitions Time group user activity
    http://boardreader.com/fp/www_moneys...me_597926.html

and was then amazed to find this site which tracks every MSE's user activity

is being relayed via MSE to Google Analytics who then make the information openly available to sites like the above!

    from Wikipedia
Google Analytics is implemented by including what is known as a "page tag". This is referred to as the Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) and is a hidden snippet of JavaScript code that the user adds onto every page of his or her website. This code acts as a beacon, collecting private visitor data and sending it back to Google data collection servers for processing
Users can officially add up to 50 site profiles. Each profile generally corresponds to one website.

    Privacy Issues

Google Analytics, due to its ubiquity, raises many privacy concerns. Whenever someone visits a website that uses Google Analytics, Google tracks that visit via the user's IP address. Because so many websites use Google Analytics, Google is able to track visitors across websites, theoretically giving Google a real-time view of the traffic on much of the web.

In addition, since Google also has personally identifiable information for more individuals than any other statistics service, there is a significant potential for abuse.
