Ideas needed for baby-friendly buffet

It's my DD's first birthday party on Saturday, and I have decided to do a small buffet as it is being held 11-1, which covers most babies' lunchtimes.

Many of my friends are doing baby-led weaning, so I wanted the food to be stuff babies can eat, as well as good for adults.

But I also need it to be stuff that is mostly assembled at the buffet table as hardly anyone has replied and I don;t want to throw food away if no-one comes! I planned to put out things like mini pittas a fillings separately so people can make their own up.

I'm looking for ideas really. so far I have:

mini pittas
grated cheese
ham
tuna in mayo
fruit
cheese cubes/minibabybels
fig rolls

Is this enough? Do I need to put more things out? Obviously there will be cake!

How about some crudites? Celery, carrot and maybe cucumber. Bit of dip and that should be lovely.

Choclate buttons - it's a party, so they need treats!

Sounds like a good spread to me. I'm sure the babies would love it. I agree with seabright, treats are essential at a party but it needn't be chocolate, strawberries dipped in greek yoghurt would go down just as well if not better in our house!

White chocolate buttons are easier to clean....

Great ideas thanks! Especially the wine... ;)

Dips are a fab idea and easy to stock up on - I am trying to organise the whole party on my own which isn;t easy.

  • How about frittata?
Crudites? Cucumaber is a favourite in our house.
Larger pasta with pesto- I'm thinking rigatoni type things which are easy for little hands to grab.
