Hello everyone a010.gif. Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever. clapping.gif

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her around last year

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.action-smiley-033.gif

  • Got off to a bad start today - all my colleagues were having fish and chips and I didn't have the willpower to resist. I did however manage to resist buying a can of pop and all the other extras I would normally have bought. Aiming for a no spend day tomorrow!

  • Hello!

I have been away since about January (life gets in the way sometimes) and now that I'm back on the forums I have come to seek you wonderful people out. Out of all the challenges this was the one I found most helpful and I'm so glad it's still going. Thank you thank you!!

I still ask myself "do you really need that coffee??" on the way into the office mainly because of this thread. Anyway, I have obviously got into some good habits as the past few months have been quite expensive but I managed to avoid getting into debt or into my overdraft. But I'm not happy with how bad habits have started creeping back and I'd like to save up for a few things looming... so I'm back on the MSE forums.

So my point is... can I please join in next week? I'd like to stop buying porridge/coffee on the way to work... and then go out hours later and buy lunch too, blowing way more than I need to. I intend to withdraw £20 cash on Sunday evening ready for the w/c 19th July and try to stick to my £20 limit for the week.

I have a few days of practice before then...

Thanks for being an inspiring bunch
Proud to be dealing with my debt

London welshcake nice to see you back, we would be glad you have you join us next week. Let us know how you are getting on.

First post is updated let me know if I have missed anything.

No spends to report so far as only spends have been from the grocery budget.

    Happy hump day:D

  • Though technically not following the challenge this week I'm getting into the swing of it...

Instead of meeting a colleague for lunch today I suggested we walk from our office to the Tate Modern to catch some (free) culture. She loved the idea (and of course it's free). So I'm instead of buying an expensive lunch I bought in some pasta (£0 spent) that I'm about to tuck into.

    Hope you're all doing well!

    Feeling virtuous :)
Proud to be dealing with my debt
  • Well I have well and truly blown my budget and spent more than double what I outlaid! Treated OH to a meal out today which I hadn't bargained for, and got a round of drinks in for colleagues. I don't go out often so I don't mind too much, although I will have to try and limit the damage from now until Sunday!

  • Hi everyone,

Was sooooo red last week I didn't even post what I'd spent in the end as I totally lost track :(

I'm on holiday this week and next so am going to give the challenge a miss until I'm back at work...

So good luck everyone over the next couple of weeks :)
