Milton in paddling pool

Hi guys, I heard few people put Milton into the kids paddling pool (the cholorine stuf is really expensive) to help stop it going green and slimy, i put kids big pool up yesterday and today its starting to look quit horrible, just wondering if any1 has ever used Milton in the pool to keep it clean and is it safe to use if kids swallow the water?? any help please guys xxx
