It means I have a nice income, but can't get credit.

    So what is this income?

A minimum wage job is not going to get you a 50k mortgage.

    Even with a 70k deposit on a 120k house?

What have they got to lose? I stop paying my mortgage and they take the house, sell it and make profit. Ok, a naive view probably, but what am I missing?

All the risk is on me, surely, I have everything to lose, the lender has nothing?

    They have to lend responsibly.

So simply put it has to be affordable to you.

So if you do not want to disclose the amount or source of your income - they will not lend.

Their money, their rules - not the other way around I'm afraid.

I don't think I could ever prove my income on what I do now, so I might as well forget about that.

But going back to the min wage job, would a guarantor help?

Seeing as prostitution is legal, I'd guess he should be paying taxes if so. So if so, should be able to get on the books with his current employment.

Possibly another gambler? The fact he doesn't want to say just raises questions.

Just been on rentboyz-r-us and you do have to be HMRC registered.

Also my girlfriend saw me looking so I am now single - thanks Marking Bad, if you just told us where you got your cash from then I wouldnt be in this predicament.

People of 'independent means' used to be also termed 'Gentlemen of Leisure'. They were often younger scions of the aristocracy who wouldn't inherit the title or the vast estates, but had to be maintained by way of a trust fund or suchlike to prevent them squandering too much of the cash on idle and dissolute pursuits, loose women, strong drink and so forth.
Of course, the OP may be female. Has the Duchess of York joined us?
