Getting a clip from a large movie file.

Options
Hi,

I want to get about a four minute clip out of an hour long video. Any free software out there that will let me do this? Quicktime wants me to buy quicktime pro to do it through that.

Thanks.

What format is the clip? Chances are Virtualdub will do it just fine.

    Hi
You can use VLC media player from here:-http://www.videolan.org/
When you play the video click on 'View' and tick 'Advanced Controls'.
This opens up some extra functions.
One of the functions is a red button that records whatever is playing.
So just play and record the section that you need.

I have the VCL media player, but don't have the "view" button, in it's place I have a "playlist" button, but nothing to give me an "advanced" button? However under "tools" I have an "extended settings" choice, but that has only given me the 2 centre buttons in your screenshot!

    HI
The current version of VLC media player is v1.1.0.
    Maybe you need to upgrade.

With my Windows XP they are stored in:-
Documents and Settings > Administrator > My Documents > My Videos

I had installed VCL from the disc that came with the camera, but whilst waiting for a reply, I uninstalled and downloaded via your link, I know have the "view" button. Thanks

When you "play and record" the section required, how do you save it as that section only?
