Dead plants at B&Q

We just came back from B&Q fuming at the number of dead plants on display. All they require is water yet they will end up in the skip.

Yes they very uncaring but to be honest its probably the staff dont have time as they dont give enough resources to looking after plants. In this heat they need watering twice a day I bet they lucky to get once a day

Sometime you can pick up a bargain plant that appear unloved and after a few careful days tlc they are fine although I suspect with the last few weeks probably isnt the case

I thought B&Q only sold dead plants!

They seem to ave absolutely no idea what they are doing in the 'garden centres' - seems to be countrywide.

Sorry I don't buy that. If they looked after the plants surely the money they would make rather than waste, would more than pay wages for someone to water them

Wilkos are the same. I complained to them the other day and all they said was we dont have the time. Why have the plants in to sell if they aren't going to look after them!

I was appalled at how many dead plants there were.

I think perhaps its because people like me feel sorry for the plant and buy them with a hope of reviving them. Sadly this is yet to happen!

There is probably a large markup on plants you can see that when they sell bedding plants off very cheaply at end of season as they sell at a fraction of there original price.

So the actually loss isnt that high compared with employing more staff to do more work to water

They do water plants just dont appear to be able to do it regularly enough especially when its really hot

Surely if its that bad it will be shown in their accounts and the store manager will do something

Yes it is quite sad to see them like that but I have had quite a few bargains lately from there. Lettuce 10p bedding plants 10p, 50p and various shrubs reduced from £7.99 to £1.99 I came away with two trolley loads and it only came to £17.00 all they needed was water and potting on and they have come up lovely.I made comments to the staff as to why they have so many like that and their answer was because they were under cover and didn't get the rain!!

I picked up two orchid plants reduced from £9.99 to 25p each!!! A few dry leaves on the plant, after a watering and repotting at home, as good as new, now that is moneysaving!!!

    Funny old world !

My daughter said she got rather tired of people coming into her "Simply Food" and saying that the flowers didn't have any water !!!
She then had to keep telling her new staff NOT to water them............
