Default Notice Issued, Loan settled 2 months ago!!

Hi all,
Ive been a lurker on here for some time! And all you guys have given me great ideas/support :money:
Im one of the lucky ones that has sorted out my debts :T
Yesterday I received a Default/ Arrears Notice from First Direct, my old bankers, I left them to sort my self out after they threatened to take my whole salary on the day I got paid to sort out joint financial problems! ( Suppose they could do this as was Joint current Account )
I left our F.D loan to run making sure payments were made on the day I got paid. Thankfully in May 2010 I was able to pay the settlement figure :T
On receiving this notice I nearly had a coronary! I rang them and they said that although my loan isn't showing as settled, it is in a diary because they think they have made an error!!!!!!
Im worried that they will have recorded something adverse with a Credit Reference Agency, when I asked them directly about this the lady said " I dont think we will have, but if we do we will send you a letter saying its a bank mistake!"
She wouldnt budge from this, saying the letters were sent out incorrectly as the computer shows we havent paid the required settlement figure! She admitted we did on 15th May!!!
Can anyone given any advice on how to word a letter to these fools before something gets added to a Credit report on me?
And is this usual :j
Thanks

Default notice is only a warning for failure to pay, if you have paid it they cannot legally apply a default anyway.
If they have made a mistake you can tell them to fix it, and if they fail to do so take it up with the ICO to get the default removed.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks, it doesnt even appear to be a proper cca default notice. We have paid, I'm slightly concerned that they are going to try and go back on the settlement figure, I'm guessing the ICO is the Information Commissioner?
As First Direct is all over the phone when we were given the settlement figure we didnt have anything in writing, we were so happy to gte rid of the debt we just paid it using bank transfer!0 -
Was this a 'normal' early settlement figure (as in you asked how much to settle and they told you and you paid that amount) or did you actually try to negotiate a reduced F&F settlement?
Yes ICO is information commissioner ('s office)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
It was a normal settlement, with a low CCA rebate, not a full and final or would have assured it was in writing! thanks0
