HI
We have planned our wedding at short notice and have been short of money. All the deposits are paid but Im wanting insurance really ofr the dress and gifts/ presents, could not afford it before.
However Im getting married in 11 days and everywhere seems to have a 14 day minium period.
Can anyone offer any suggestions ?
Was maybe wondering If I got home insurance this would cover it instead .
Thanks x

I've got my wedding insurance through Greenbee and can't find anything about it only applying after 14 days. It says cover starts when the premium is paid and is valid until a certain time after the ceremony reception (that can change if specific reasons I think). Are you talking about cover for dress/gifts etc up to and at the wedding? You don't mean general cover afterwards do you?

You would have to ask your home insurers. Wedding insurance not only covers the dress, some monetary gifts but also the what ifs..the venue burnt down, or there was a family bereavement or illness. I doubt that home insurance would cover this.

Great point made by Horace...it's never too close to the date to have the 'what ifs', look at the ash cloud this year! Showing my age here but my best friend got married the day after the big hurricane in 1987. The registry office only just held on to it's power but the restaurant we went to afterwards wasn't as lucky and she had that venue moved at 4 hours notice!! Anything can happen and wedding policies aren't that expensive when you consider what you could lose

I don't think home insurance would cover your dress either.

I've just had a look through the wedding insurance companies listed on compareweddinginsurance.org.uk
    - E&L state 21 days
    - Dreamsaver and Debenhams don't specify
    - Weddingplan state "We are able to issue a wedding insurance policy for you at anytime up to the day before the wedding as long as you know of no reason which may cause you to incur a claim before you purchase your policy."

Ecclesiastical say 14 days and I can't seem to find any minimum period with Greenbee either.
  • I used Wedding Plan as I had left mine too late also not realising some places needed a minimum time!!

So if all else fails give them a try xxx
