Laser Eye Correction - which company?

I am looking to get laser eye surgery performed.
However, what's the best way to determine which company to go for?
There are many companies like Optimax and Ultralase. They all offer the latest wavefront technology.
What's the best way forward to get the best eye treatment?
Thanx

Hi AMO,
Have you seen Martin's article on laser eye surgery? There's also a long thread on laser eye surgery on the Health board that might help: Laser Eye Surgery?

My boyfriend just had this done and we did lots of research on the subject. so hopefully I can help.
Try lasik-eyes.co.uk it has a forum and personal accounts of different laser treatment centres along with overall rating- we found it very helpful. As for equipment; ultralse and optical express have latest lasers and software. optimax laser is older I believe.
You should always look for places that use qualified optical surgeons no matter how tempting special offers are. Make sure they offer good after care.
Make sure the proedure and its risks are properly explained.
Although my boyfriend used optical express in the end their customer service was not good to say the least but we are in london It may be different elsewhere in the country. They also do prices on a sliding scale according to prescription- higher the prescription higher the price. The surgeon was fine and did the job and he now has better than 20 20 vision.
If in the london area you may want to try moorfield eye hospital - supposed to be very good although I think they are the most expensive.
I would say stick with the main ones which you can research better and find people who have had a personal experience of them.
Hope this helps0 -

Thanx Pink. Yes, I know about Martin's article. Most of the time, he writes good stuff, but there are different types of laser surgery for eyes and its not a straight comparison of cost.

Hi hm2be. Thanx for that.I'm familar with that website. Ultralase also has its own forums. As far as I can tell, there are 4-5 main players.
Ultralase uses the latest wavefront-guided technology in all its clinics and is the most expensive.
Optimax has been around the longest and has performed more operations.
Accuvision has a fairly good reputation and uses almost latest wavefront-optimised technology.
Optical Express I don't know too much about.

I had my eyes done with Optimax in the Finchly Road, London. The service was fantastic, I would highly reccommend them. My eye sight was very poor -8 and I now have 20/20 vision. It is fantastic to be ble to wake up in the morning and be able to see clearly.Competitions wins 2010

What type of eye treatment did you take?

Hiya, I had LASIK with wavefront iris recognition at Ultralse Chelmsford.
I would recommend that you contact the main providers that you are interested in to get their literature so you can reasearch them all for yourself. I don't mean for that to sound unhelpful I just mean there are many factors to consider. Location of nearest clinic, cost, surgeon, payment options, aftercare and what procedural options are available to you if any.
Most offer consultations for free so you can attend and see if you are suitable and discuss any options that might be available to you. Ultralase offer an interest free 12 month payment option which was great for me. It wasn't the cheapest option by a long chalk but I was and am thrilled with all aspects of my treatment and aftercare. I am loving being spec free.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
I had epi-LASEK on one eye and LASIK on the other at Optimax Manchester(6 months apart): being a research scientist, and having read around the subject quite a bit, I personally was not willing to take the risk of surgery on both eyes at the same time and originally intended to have epi-LASEK on both but separated by 3 months as risk of surgical complications is lower than with LASIK. However, the eyesight in my epi-L treated eye regressed to -0.5 over 3 months (a recognised complication which happens in some patients). As I only had one eye treated I had the option to switch procedures to LASIK. This has given me perfect eyesight (still perfect nearly a year on, regression does not really seem to happen with LASIK I believe) with the huge advantage of a pain-free procedure. I found Optimax professional and very happy to treat my eyes separately. This did not cost me any more than if I'd had them both treated at once but I'm sure the cost to them was double! I was therefore impressed that they did not try to persuade me otherwise. They profile all the surgeons at the Optimax clinics on their website, so I was reassured that mine had excellent NHS, research and private experience in this field before going ahead. By the way, although they warn you epi-LASEK "can be" uncomfortable I personally found it considerably harder to cope with than childbirth with no pain relief (which I have experienced twice!) so be warned!!0

I had my eyes lasered at Optimax Birmimingham ten years ago and best thing i have ever done. My 24 yr old daughter recently had hers done at Optimax Leeds and she thinks likewise. She bought her Optimax package on Ebay. Don't be frightened off by this; Optimax merely offer the treatment on Ebay to use up gaps in their appointment book. The treatment is no different to that you would expect by just approaching them off the street except for the final bill! My daughter ended up getting both her eyes done for £795...a saving of about £400. Well worth a look at but the decision is yours to make. Good luck.0
