Overspecs (cocoons) instead of Prescription Sunglasses

I've found so many money saving tips over the years on this site I felt I just have to share this one.

As a specs wearer the issue of sunglasses has been a tricky one for about 20 years!
Have regular specs and (very expensive) prescription specs and keep switching? Irritating plus I'm scared I'll drop my normal specs.
Clip ons - well I might but when I tried them once on holiday my OH refused to be seen in public with me!
Reactorlights - this is the compromise I've lived with for years - but it isn't ideal. They don't go dark enough and they don't change fast enough so on a sunny day I find myself standing still just inside a building waiting for them to fade so I can see anything, which often leads to others bumping into me or gnashing their teeth because I'm being so annoying!
So I'd seen glasses that go over your own on older people but they were really awful - worse than the clip ons. Until a colleague came back from New Zealand with a pair that look like regular(ish) sunglasses. Turns out they were about £80 and not available in this country so I went on a long internet search and found an American Make - cocoons - available from a place in Southend: http://www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk/cocoons/

Not only are they great but they were only £36 and the service was very good - they happily let me order several sizes to try and quickly refunded the pairs I returned. Free postage to deliver (although you have to pay to return) and everyone at work now wants a pair.
No I'm not getting commission - although I'm starting to think I should as I've given the details to so many people

I really can't explain how wonderful it is to be able to go from shaded to unshaded so easily, plus they are comfortable, and with the extra protection at the sides and top/bottom they make my eyes far less tired and watery than normal sunglasses. No they aren't the most fashionable things on the planet but they really do look OK and are the biggest bargain Iv'e found in years.

Hanspan, Have a look a Zenni optical, they make prescription glasses with their own clip ons so they are the correct size and shap for your spex. They also do Magnetic ones which my husband uses with his varifocals.

I just wanted to thank the OP for posting about Cocoons. I ordered some after reading the post, and have had them for a month or so now. I love them! I never wear my prescription sunglasses anymore, as the Cocoons are so much more convenient. As a specs wearer, they really are the best thing I've ever tried for sun protection.
