I can't believe that a flippant, admittedly rather bad joke I made has bothered you so much,
    Bothered? Me? Not at all.

I just came across this thread early Sunday morning while having my wake up cuppa and felt like making a comment.

Didn't really give it much thought. I actually found the link you posted quite interesting.

In fact I'm pretty sure you are not even allowed to export horses to another country if they are going to be eaten.

British law requires an equine passport so they can be traced, so to get round this they are slaughterd in the uk then the meat shipped to Europe where its a delicacy, its called "on the hook" where if it was alive it would be "on the Hoof" this is a get around for animal trading ie Veal.
Gordon Ramsey sells horse meat in his restaurants.
The Taboo of eating horse meat find its roots in it being Band by The Roman Catholic Church yet Italians are the largest consumers in Europe
Also if you holiday in europe you should look up the translation for horse as its found in lots of meat products.

Always brings a smile to my face watching the british skiers in Austria going to the stalls, kids scoffing them down because they have seen the hotdog pictures on the side. Pferdeleberkase Hot Dogs, need i say more ;)
