Best way to market website development???

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has started up a website design / consultancy company and have any advice??

I've developed a couple of site for people who have asked and they have been pleased with the results but how can i "spread the word"

Also what sort of fees does this type of work attract, I've been happy to work for minimum rates so far as something is better than nothing, but an idea of what the going rate is for complete website build, and updating pages, or adding functionality, would be great!!

I'm not sure of the forum rules etc so i won't post links to what i've done - unless that's ok??

Cheers,
TM

Forgive me for being a bit cheeky, but under the heading of "consultancy", which you say you do ... isn't this the sort of advice your clients expect you to be giving them? aka: you should know this.

    :)

You asked for advice about starting up "a website design / consultancy company". So it's natural for people to assume that's what you are wanting do do.

If you're not going to be doing consultancy, why ask about it?

    All very helpful guys.

Is there an opposite to "Thanks" button?

The way to approach any business and decide what you are going to charge is to look at what competitors are already doing. Find the successful ones then copy their strategy.

There are a lot of web design consultants etc out there. Find out what you can do better.

If you are selling consultancy then you do need to know how to market your business and your clients business. Start researching SEO and social media and traffic generation strategies....
