JSA and savings threshold......

Hello, my mum works part time and has been told she may be able to claim JSA to increase her income. She has some savings and I believe this may impact on what she may be able to claim.
What is the savings threshold on which she may be able to claim? She is 59 years old right now and turns 60 in October 1st. She lives on her own and as she was widowed last July she has the mortgage/council tax and utility bills to pay each month.
Her bereavement allowance ends in July and JSA is the next option to replace that lost income.
Does the threshold change when she turns 60? If so would it be better to wait until then for her to claim JSA?
Many thanks.

Edited: Does she intend on getting more work, if not she cannot claim JSAThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

According to the council tax benefit lady who kindly came round to speak yesterday, it is highly unlikely at her age that anyone will offer her work and therefore advised her to apply for JSA.0 -

Maybe, age discrimination is higher amongst the elderly and the young however she should not be on it just to get the money, she will be expected to apply for jobs and if offered accept the job. If this does not happen then obviously she will lose the benefitThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

That's perfectly fair enough. We understand that. Maybe she meant income support, is there a difference between JSA and income support?0 -

Probably, btw to answer the question upto 6k I think benefits are not affected, after that for every £250 you get something deducted upto 16k.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
