Old Nationwide account not showing as Satisfied

Hi,
A few years back when I was an intern I got into a pickle with a direct debit with Nationwide. Long story short, I switched to Citibank after Nationwide wouldn't give me a debit card and cancelled my DDs etc but a few months after I stopped using the account one was reactivated and had been racking up overdrawn charges.
I paid these off after I realised what had happened but it left with me a string of red 6s on my credit history.
I recently used one of my free reports I get with my Capital One card and it's still showing as if I'm owing them and hasn't been marked as satisfied/settled.
I'm wondering if this affecting my ability to get credit now as I've applied for a Halifax Reward account but was turned down even though I pay in more than £2000 a month.

Yes probably.
I would write to nationwide quote the account/reference number, remind them that you paid the debt on whatever date and ask them to correct your credit file to reflect this. Also ask them to ensure the account is formally closed and marked as such on your credit file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
