I was a SAHM who went back to work after 10 years at home! You need to put on your CV that all gaps in your employment are due to being at home to look after your family. Thats what I have done. You also need to say why you now want THIS particular job. For example, I have been doing playwork for the last 18 months and want to move back into an admin position. So on my application form (schools dont take CV's) I have said that playwork was an ideal step back to work after being at home with my children but I now would like a job in admin as that fits my previous skills and qualifications.

I have sent my cv and covering letters to about 15 different jobs this week and not heard a dratted sausage in return not even a courtesy letter saying sorry not this time

Be patient, most positions will have a window of at least a couple of weeks (some a month) before anyone looks at the CVs and decides who to interview and who to reject.

Remember a lot of jobs are now getting 100-200 applications, sending out rejection letters is time consuming (although I still think companies should reply).

Is your CV written in blocks of long text like the above?

If so, I think we have found the reason.

    No it isn't.

The way I write on a forum (informal/casual) and the wayI write professionally (in employment/academia) are completely different thank you very much.

I am not a troll. I was giving a frank comment that if a CV is not structured properly and presentable then there is no chance for the candidate whether they are perfect for the role or not as noone will bother reading it. If the OP's posts are anything to go by, then I suggest that a CV review could be a step in the right direction.

My CV is the chronological format and is set out appropriately. The JCP careers adviser went over it and had no problem with it; in fact, I was informed that it was set out to a very high standard.

You can improve on that this time and try 15 per day. Some people do this and do receive a response and even an interview. Check your CV is up to scratch.

Yes come across alot of people doing the exact same thing with no luck. Nearly every position requires some experience whether that be a cleaning or banking position. Have you thought about proving to them that you can do what they require? They don't have to pay you until they've seen how good or bad you are.

You've basically got four options in this climate:

1.Find a decent job if it works out.
2.Voluntary work then hopefully they'll employ you.
    3.Job Seekers Allowance.
    4.Self-employment.

Question, did you watch BBC's Money Watch this week? If you did not you can watch it on BBC iPlayer online. It may help you. They covered many things, job search, current climate, money saving tips and self-employment.

    Hi

    Thanks for the advice.

There is no way on this earth I would be able to send 15 applications a DAY as there is nowhere to send them to! I am lucky if I can find 4 a day!!! There are few and far between jobs around at the moment in my area and I can't apply for EVERY job that comes up because I haven't got the requisite knowledge/experience/qualifications for every job; I can only apply for those suitable for me, but without being fussy.

What I might do is look into volunteering in order to obtain a second favourable reference. This is the only thing I can realistically change in the short-term.

Obviously, I can't change the fact I have got children and I can't change my qualifications overnight (although I could look at night classes in the future or in-house training if I obtain employment) but maybe (depending on how it affects my benefits) I could take steps to get the other reference most employers seem to want so much.

    I will keep you posted

    Thanks

15 applications a day is ridiculous, I agree. I havent found 15 jobs to apply for let alone 15 a day.
