Woolwich to Barclays???

Hi

I have an Openplan account with the Woolwich and understand that from next year Barclays will be taking over the brances in the high street. I looked on the Barclays website today and they said that they would give us notice when they change our accounts over to Barclays accounts. (I'm not happy with this, do not like Barclays) Does anyone work for Barclays or know about this? Will my account be the same, or will they change it into one of their accounts they they advertise at present??? (I may have posted in the wrong board, so sorry if I have!)

I love my Woolwich account as it is, and am not ready for change!! If you know, please help....

Thanks
Lo

Woolwich has been part of Barclays for years, but only now are they basically removing the Woolwich because it's just not profitable so really, you have been banking with Barclays for a few years.

Your accounts will be automatically moved to the most similar Barclays alternative, you can always ask in either branch - they are your accounts so it's your decision how and where they are moved.

  • I used to work for woolwich (and have an open plan account with them), my sis has also just been made redundant from them.

Don't know much other than that Woolwich will just do mortgages and that any other accounts will transfer over to an equivalent barclays account (eg I have a woolwich credit card which was transfered over to Barclaycard when they took over). I don't think that this is likely to happen for about a year but as you say they will tell you in advance. I do know lots of people that are not happy with this and will close the account, but why lose out on the benefits now? you may as wel just wait till it happens then if you are still not happy, move your account to another provider.

  • Woolich has been part of Barclays for at least the past 4 years. I think now may be a good time for you to shop around and find an account which is right for you.

    Hi all,

Was at the counter in my local Woolwich last week when a Barclays employee came in and started chatting with the staff (Barclays is a stones throw away from the Woolwich Branch) and it seems the Woolwich folks will be absorbed in to the Barclays Branch, logical seeing as it's the larger of the two.

Also, the Barclays girl told the Woolwich lot that it will be happening by July of this year - so that's the target time I've set myself to have claimed my charges back from the woolwich and moved the account (not a big Barclays fan, in case you hadn't noticed!) :)

Found the thread in a forum search, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 'pennorth.

I work for the Woolwich (Barclays!) and a pilot of the merger of the brands is starting soon. There will then be a full roll-out. As someone above has said you will get plenty of notice. I believe it is 3 months. The Open Plan product is already available through Barclays but only now to customers with mortgages so that will change as it is so popular. You will get a new sort code and account number. Any limits already set on ODs etc will stay. There will be a new complaints team in Bexleyheath to deal with customers unhappy with the migration program.

  • So, does this mean I can use a Barclays branch for my Woolwich account now or not yet?

I need to transfer some money to Germany and Barclays rate is cheaper than the Woolwich.
  • You have to use woolwich until you're sent confirmation your account has been moved over to barclays.
