Got some Finish tablets the other week from JS. Thought they were such a good offer (25% off) I have now got 7 months worth of them! Mrs chalky_bertie was not best pleased - i told her there could be a dishwasher tablet shortage next month.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0

I have just changed to using powder. I use 1/3 the recommended amount (for a 3/4 size dishwasher) and it is fantastic - even better than tablets because it dissolves instantly and gets to work straightaway. Costs about 5p a wash using Tesco 5-in-1 powder (which wasn't on special offer )- so I might do it even cheaper in future if I get a powder on offer...0

Annie-c thanks for the thought of powder, i was thinking of doing that as well!
When my machine had probs recently, i was told to stick to the 'more expensive' brands of tabs as the cheaper ones block up the filters, is this true???!!, any experts out there to advise?, thanks in advance
No one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
Asda still have Glist 15s for £1. Just over 6p a tablet!0

Only 'expert' in that I have a dishwasher. Absolute rubbish if you ask me! The 'expensive brands' are generally expensive because you are paying for the TV commercials.... I used some cheap-brand ones from Netto for ages and they were fine but it was a 'weekly special' and I've not seen them since.
The thing that will clog your filter is grease and food particles, in my experience, so scrape your dishes well before putting on the racks and remove the filter and associated bits and give them a good scrub weekly.
Every fortnight or so I also clean my dishwasher with bicarb and vinegar. I put a desert spoon of bicarb down the filter and pour on 1/4 cup vinegar. Allow it to fizz up then turn the knob to the very end of the rinse cycle and switch on, so that it just does the pump and drain action, without adding water. That will pump the bicarb/vinegar through the pipes and keep them greese free. Then I chuck 1/4 cup vinegar randomly on the bottom of the washer and put it on a cold rinse, so the vinegar solution gets sprayed through the arms and all round. Then wipe the seals and the bottom ledge just under the door where gloop can hide and leave the door ajar for it to dry off. I don't know if I made this routine up myself or stole someone else's idea... I read lots on here about vinegar and bicarb and then get a bit creative when I need something to be cleaned up!:D0 -
White vinegar or malt?Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0
