Duplicate Default help

HI,
Hope someone can help me with this one.
I just got my updated credit report and I have 2 defaults listed for the same debt.
One with the original company and one with the DCA now dealing with it.
The default dates are the same and both have an outstanding balance. THe balance from the DCA seems to be £8 more than the original and i have set up a repayment plan with the DCA.
Can i get the default removed from the original creditor? I have read that the original one should show as settled once soldto the DCA is that right?
I hope someone can tell me who to contact and whether there should be only one default and who it should be with.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Yes there should only be one default and it should be at the original default date (which it sounds like it is in your case).
If the DCA register the debt and default then the original creditor one should be removed.
I would initially write to the DCA saying that both are appearing and please can they resolve the issue.
If they don't, or if they come back with some stupid response then this letter might be useful - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=33792215&postcount=36 (but I do think you should try just asking to start, that letter seems to be a bit much to begin your dispute).
If this is an online credit report I would suggest you keep a hard copy in case they do something incorrect (such as ensure the original creditor removes its default and then change the date on the DCA default).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you i will contact them today and see what they say.
another quick question thought if you can help, I have anothe duplicate entry on my file.
I had an old CC with a company and i have one entry with a default saying satisfied as i paid it off and another entry for the same debt with no default saying settled, should i write to them asking them to remove the default?
both are listed with the original creditor so its not like ones with a DCA. is there anything i can do?
the settled satusfactory one will fall off my credit file at the end of this year but the defaulted one will still be there as it doesn't say settled til 2 years later.0 -
Did you default on the debt? what default date is shown? that one should go from your file 6years from the default date not the settled date.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

I did default on it and then paid it off. the default date is 2006.
I am trying to clear my file up and have 4 default (5 including the duplicated one) does it help that they are old or are they just as bad as having new ones.
I am hoping to get it clear as soon as possible so i can one day get a mortgage. I have a ccj to get paid off so i am focusing on that. once that is paid off will it help my credit rating? or is it going to stay bad for 6 years from the ccj. is it 6 years from the date ccj added or settled?
sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head round it all and work out what to throw any additional money at first.0
