And yet our old car (Fiat Brava - 10 years old) absolutely hated Tesco petrol. It always made it REALLY sluggish. It was, however, fine with other supermarket petrol. No idea why.....From WhatCar:
Q: Is it true that the fuel sold at supermarket petrol stations is not of the same quality as that as you would buy from a dedicated petrol station?
A: According to the Petrol Retailers Association, there is no difference between the standard petrol you buy from supermarkets or franchised petrol stations. In most cases the petrol and diesel is even produced at the same refinery and delivered in the same trucks.
The exception to this is specialist fuels, such as Shell’s Optimax and BP’s Ultimate. In their case, the fuel is enhanced with additives, which produce that brand’s particular properties.

There are some special additives in BP fuel at the minute including bits of golf ball
OP, thanks, but hubby filled up at Asda last night, d'oh!! :rotfl:Illegitimi non carborundum.0 -
ive worked on various sites ie texaco, bp shell and it is ALL THE SAME FROM THE SAME REFINERY regardless of what bumf u read and what it says on the side of the tanker, in fact we used to get a delivery after tesco in the same tanker. so just buy whats cheapest *^%*%* im another who filled up yesterday grrr0
-
Yes the basic fuel is the same and can come from the same refinery and can be delivered by the same trucks. When the tanker goes to get loaded the driver will put in a code that tells the filling machine who the customer is and how much additive to add to the mixture.

DF said he filled up our car at tesco this morning and it was a little cheaper than asda.
And to all of you who are whinging about the petrol making your car sluggish, its full of additives etc etc, I think the saying goes:
Only a bad workman blames his tools.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
hey
i was in tescos a couple of days back and id spent £40ish i was thinkin at the checkout it might be worth spendin an extra tenner (maybe the finest snizzle dizzle cheat) for the save 5p a litre offer, but i worked out id only be a quid or so better off from the fuel, any way this reduction works out to be less than 1% off. not to be negative but . . . . still i suppose the cheaper the better.0 -

one of the first or last things on the negotiating table when buying a new car is a free full tank of petrol included in the purchase price.
When the deal is completed ask for a full tank of petrol if the answer is no head for the exit door and its guaranteed the salesman will not let you leave as he would not want to lose a sale for the sake of a tankful of petrol which don't forget they can claim the vat back on anyway.
