will i need to pay it back

Hi there,

I was to start my svq 3 in my work place and I only was at it for roughly 8 weeks, when I left my work place!

I was funded by the highland council, and I remember they said something in the contract that if I didn't finish the modules by a certain time then I'd have to pay for each module! What i'm wondering though is will I have to repay the funding, as I've left my job and therefore withdrawn from the course. There is no way I could repay all that money - but as it was workbased and I'm not in the placement it wasn't possible to continue!

Any advice would be great i've got myself in such a panic and state now! It almost makes me wish I'd never seen the place at all! it's brought me nothing but bad luck!

Thanks for now.

Can you continue with the course at your new workplace? NVQs can be done anywhere, and if it is all being paid for, I can imagine your new employer would be quite pleased about it.

It depends on what the agreement you signed actually says, but it is quite possible that they could demand the fees repaying if they have paid for them or have to pay for them. However, if they did so it should be possible to arrnage to repay in installments, rather than the full amount.
  • Hi

I was in the same position (not with highland council), I was studying for an accountancy qualification. I left to work part-time in a less stressful job and had to pay back the cost of the full course.

If they ask you to pay them back I would offer to pay in installments as the worst they can do is say no. In my case they did say no and I had to find the full amount but it doesn't hurt to try.

Depends on what their T&Cs were and what you signed.

Could you ask your new employer if they'd cover it?
