Any pub related stuff up for grabs?

OK folks, heres the plan, me and the wife are setting up a home bar in my front room, we have the Bar its self, a bandit, disco lights, mini fridge and a few other bits, but what we are looking for is any advertising bits that display brand name pub stuff. That will make the project look and feel just like a pub.
I was just wondering if any of you monmey savers out there know of any related freebies that may help!
I have already been onto a few breweries with some nicely worded emails (If I get any luck from them I will post the links/emails for you lot to do the same!)

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
When my brother made a bar in his house, He asked at his local. He was suprised at the bits and bobs he recieved what were just gathering dust in the cellar. He got some optics, beer mats, bar towels, and some glasses. You can only ask.
I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.

I know it's not free but I often find lots of 'breweriana' as it's called at car boot sales, often costing pence. I get a lot of my pint glasses (guinness, budweiser, stella etc) for next to nothing.

The best thing to do apart from "borrowing" from local pubs is to contact some of the companies and tell them you have acquired premises for a bar (which technically you have) and ask them for some POS (point of sale) promotional items and free samples as you are unsure what items you are going to sell. Ususally you will be sent stuff like glassware, ashtrays t-shirts etc.

I manage a restaraunt and whenever I ask for samples they are only to willing to give me free stuff. I normally just pass this onto my staff.

Any t-shirts and glassware that you recieve that you do not need, keep them in their boxes/bags and you will make a few quid on them on carboots.

My mother in-law runs carboots and she can sell unopened beer t-shirts for £5 each and unoppened glassware for £2 each.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I will ask at my locals and approach the drinks companies for the POS stuff like you said. The carboot/flea market also I will keep scouring out for goodies too!
Thanks for the Artic's beermat, I got that already though, but thanks anyway!

I think a few trips to my local pubs are in order to [STRIKE]borrow[/STRIKE] I mean ask for some pubby goodies......
  • Student bars get tons of promo stuff given to them for obvious reasons. Our's used to then dump unused box loads of sealed bearmats and other promos, as each new promotion came in. Another idea is look out for pub and club refits and either check their skips or ask the builders. Our Uni refit saw all the traditional pub stools and tables dumped for modern.

  • When I worked in a bar, we got some really cool Hamlet ashtrays and promotional items, definately email them, I would say the tobacco companies are more than likely to give you stuff as advertising tobacco is getting much harder

  • You could try registering with the Jack daniels club, they send you stuff thru the post, such as silver keyrings with jack daniels on, beer mats, cd's, loads of different bits n bobs, worth a try i guess

    £2 coin savers club = £118
    20p saver club = £275.80 :T yippeeeee
  • That's true, if you sign up to various Diageo brands they're the ones that tend to do most of the freebies:
