Reclaiming My Tax

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out a little bit regarding my PAYE tax?
I really struggle with this kind of stuff so I'm seeking some helpful advice.

Am I allowed to claim any tax back from the two previous tax years? If I can how do I go about it?

On my P60 End of Year Certificate 2008-09:-
Pay - £6327.30 Tax Deducted - £469.60
Tax Code - 603L M1

On my P60 End of Year Certificate 2009-10:-
Pay - £10609.86 Tax Deducted - £826.00
Tax Code - 647L

Can I claim any of my tax back? If so how much would it be?

Thanks for any help.

your local tax office can help, all the info is also on the hm revenue website.
it looks correct for the 2010 one, but the earlier one depends on the tax free allowance for that year.
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000

In 2009-10 you have paid the correct amount of tax.

For 2008-09 you were on emergency code and may be due a refund depending on what you did before starting with the employer that gave you the P60

I was unemployed before I got that P60. I started work for the first time on 4th August 2008. If that helps?

Were you claiming JSA before the job and if so did you get a P45 when you signed off?

If so, send the P45 and 08/09 P60 to HMRC and ask them to review the year.

Ahh thnaks for your help, much appreciated. Before I got this job I left Sixth Form College so I didn't go on JSA, I just went straight into the job. I'll give HMRC a ring. Thank you.
