Problem refunding faulty sandals!

I bought a pair of leather gladiator sandals from office a couple of weeks ago. I was happy with my purchase and wore them a couple of times, until yesterday when i noticed a rip at the front of the sandals. I toolk it back to the store today. I was told by the manager that it was my fault that the sandals have 'scuffed' and the product wasnt faulty. she was very rude and said there is no way i can get them exchanged!
i took her name and their head office details, as i was not happy with the service. What should I do? Is it worth ringing the head office? or are they likely to take their employees side? :undecided

Kinda hard to prove that it wasn't you who tore themWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

You say you noticed a "rip" and the manager says they are scuffed - a BIG difference there. If I had worn the sandals a couple of times and then seen they were torn I would be very unhappy - surely they are not fit for purpose (assuming you haven't been doing anything in them you should not be!).
Have you got the receipt, or proof of purchase?
I personally would write to head office enclosing details of the receipt (number, time, date etc) or at least the day you bought them, if possible include a picture of the fault and a picture of the sole of the sandals to prove they have not been worn too much, and tell them you really expected them to last longer than a couple of weeks/wearings considering you paid £X for them, and you really were not happy with the attitude of staff (might be best not to put that in unless they still refuse refund, but you might want to anyway!).
When I am complaining I always start with a compliment, you might like to say you have never had problems with their products before or the suchlike.
They may only be shoes, and yes they do get damaged through being worn, but in my opinion they should last longer so it is worth pursuing this.
Good luckWhat is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
THanks for the replies! I will pursue it. Jane, that was exactly my thought, i know they ar eonly sandals, but i paid good money for it. why should it be damaged after a coupleof wears?!
anyway, thank you!0 -
Hi, I would absolutely contact HO - firstly, the sandals must have weak and how dare she speak to you in such a rude way - I think some comment on the service you received should also be included in your communication. Good Luck x0

If the sandals ripped after just a couple of wears they are not fit for purpose, thus faulty and you should be entitled to an exchange, refund or repair0

Yes, contact Head office; that shouldn't happen after only a few weeks.0

Have a look at this: http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/clothes/
Pay particular note to this: Make certain that the fault was not caused by misuse, an accident, normal wear and tear or by not following the care label.
Good luckAugust: £149/£150
Sept: £200
