Few questions for anyone who might be able to help.

Have just bit the bullet and rang my Alliance Loan people, which I haven't paid since Dec I think.

Ive been told my whole balance is £1200 including arrears of £900.
They've said I can't set up an agreement with them as its just going over to another company now. I am welcome to call up each week if I like (costing me a fortune with my mobile!) to pay token payments.

They said they can only take SOA from Citizens Advice Bureau, not just from me.

With this clearly massive default on my credit report, there's no way I'd get a 0% interest C/C so I could just clear it in one go, is there?

And also, I looked at my free experian credit report last year, so now I can't see if for free anymore apparently as I cancelled the subscription when they wanted to start charging.

Any advice??

And also if anyone knows about enforceability, which Ive read a bit about today, but not quite sure as it seems a bit complicated.... just looked through whole documents folder, don't have a thing with a signature on, no contract etc. Ive kept everything from them. I took this loan out in July 2006.
Would that maybe be something I would have received and sent back? Can't really remember doing it.

To get access to your credit reports you can only do the free trial once. But you can still see your credit report by requesting the statutory report which only costs £2.

No there is no chance of you getting a 0% card with such arrears.

You would have received 2 copies of your credit agreement one to return and one to keep for your records (unless you applied online).

To start I would write to them and offer them a token payment and ask for their bank details so you can pay this token payment by standing order.

What is the siutation generally with your debts? are you in arrears with other debts? how much could you afford to repay to this debt each month? and what was the monthly amount originally? Have you had any advice from any of the debt charities so far? Have you considered doing a debt management plan so that you are treating all your debts equally and can show that your are (which gives you the best chance they will freeze interest).

You could consider looking into whether the loan maybe unenforceable, you would need to start by requesting a copy of your CCA from them (enclosing the £1 fee). Have you looked at the thread with all the templates etc? - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2532927

Hi Tixy, Thanks for the reply.

I did apply online, so would that make a difference? Other debts are below, H of F and Littlewoods. Both I think are a month late, but hoping to clear both this month. Then its just overdrafts.

A&L said I can;t do bank details and standing orders apparently, only cheques, postal orders or phonecalls. If I must go to CAB I will, but just not that easy with a 4 yr old, me giantely pregnant and car just gone up the creek. And a dog that has just decided to go crazy if left. And the area of the office is similar to Baghdad I imagine.

I have just used another website for its free trial and my score is apparently 544. Oh dear. Although this site doesn't have any record of my current other debts, House of Fraser or Littlewoods, plus none of my old credit cards/ store cards, or which there used to be quite a few. The website is creditscorematters.co.uk. Could it just be a rubbish one that doesn't check everything? Would quite like to see everything if possible.

Not heard of that site and wouldnt not advise it- to be honest the scores don't really mean that much, its whats on the actual report that matters ie the list of accounts missed payments and any default dates etc. The 3 official credit reference agencies are experian, equifax and call credit (experian also got under the name of credit expert).

They shouldn't be able to insist on you seeing CAB but I know sometimes they can be a real pain if you don't see one of the charities. You could try CCCS (also a debt charity) who can help via internet (online debt remedy) and phone calls, which might be slightly easy for you.

A&L should let you pay by SO (sounds to me they are being delibrately awkward by phone) you may find that they are more accomodating by letter - a lot of places are.
