My Debt Diary by newbie DFW –Ellas96

  • To clarify

OH has two daughters. 15YO lives with us we recieve no maintenace from his ex because she is on benefits. She has custody of their 11YO DD and we pay her £283 per month . I have a 10YO DD from PR and receive no maintenance either (not because I haven't tried)
  • UPDATE:

1)I have contacted CSA (again) and as I thought it seems we pay too much to his OH for the DD she has custody of.It seems that OH's housing costs were very low at the time she claimed against him and he hasn't updated it, he was earning more at the time, and my DD was not taken into account. Also it seems that we can maybe claim from her so I'm filling in the forms today. Fingers crossed x

2)I'm not sure where to start with the CC's. Virgin do 0% for the life of the balance if I transfer and barclay do 6.4% if I transfer but only up to the amount of our credit limit which would allow us to transfer about £1400. Or would it be better to apply for a low LOB? and If I do this (which we have been refused in the past) do you think it is better to apply for the card then transfer the balance once you have a foot in the door or be upfront about balances you wish to transfer?

3)I will look at my claim against Abbey (about £1400) tonight and will search for info about having to pay back overdrafts

4)I now have a number 4!! I want to start Quidco-ing and such like...any tips?

Also I only spent 34p on lunch today! (milk for my cereal!)

Any ideas which might be the best route to take?

Hi - I'm a newbie as well and busy absorbing all the great advice on this board.

Your interest rates are very high. Can you get a 0% credit card by applying for a new account - transfer the balance off the highest interest card and cancel the original CC so that you are not tempted to rack up more debt (been there, done that, got the T shirt as they say).

Other cards offer lower life of balance (LOB) rates which could be more suitable if you don't think you will be able to repay the BT when the 0% period ends.

I found the snowball calculator https://www.whatsthecost.com to be invaluable as it shows clearly which debts should be paid off first.

I'm sure others will have lots of great suggestions for you.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the snowball calculator Hazel Eyes I have updated my signature to reflect!

Someone said that theres an M&S 3.odd low life opf balance card disussed on the credit card board this has to be worth a stab. Ask them what your limit is, you want to consolidate your existing cards onto them, and you want the higest limit you can get to cover them.

Looks like the maintainence issue is getting sorted though, good work :)

Re quidco. your best bet is the referrals board, as theres LOADS of info on there. Some of the things Ive done is a) opened a bank account with 1st direct £45, done all the free trials of DVD rentals ( about 7.50 each now) ordered magazines 1.00 4.00 cash back, If ive needed ANYTHING i always check quidco first. My sis wanted to order 500s worth of furniture,so I did it thro my quidco account and got almost 50 for that!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
