                    Hi,
I've been given the mighty task of buying and preparing all the food for my auntie's 75th birthday barbecue.
My cooking skills are very basic. I think I have everything else sorted but not quite sure of what to do for a pasta and rice dish.
Has anyone some simple recipies please ??????

I would do a roasted vegetable pasta/rice. Roast whatever summer veg you like; courgettes, peppers, onions, mushrooms with some herbs, olive oil and garlic on them would be my choice. Mix these in with some cooked pasta or rice.0

Couscous goes really well with roasted veg too.0

Pasta, mixed with sweetcorn, peas and a tin of tuna, all held together with a spoon or two of mayo. Very quick and simple.0

sliced mushrooms and onions fried in a little oil and then when soft but still warm mixed with a little butter stired through cooked well seasoned rice is lovely.
Mix pasta with shop bought pasta sauce and freshly torn basil leaves. easy peasy:beer:0

Fry some chopped up bacon with a chopped onion and whatever other veggies you'd like then add a carton of passata and a little garlic powder & herbs. Mix in cooked pasta or rice for a tomato version.

one of my fave rice recipes is this one.
To a large bowl of rice add
a tin of pineapple chunks - drained by about half (the ones in juice is best but syrup is ok).
a good cupfull of frozen peas - cooked - or you can use some finely sliced runner beans also cooked.
Thats it! Stir it all together!
If you KNOW there wont be any vegetarians you can also add some cubed ham.
the pasta one requires a little more work!
to a bowl of cooked pasta shapes, (I like fusilli for this but shells and bows work too).
add marie rose sauce (my recipe is - equal quantities of mayo and salad cream with a good helping of tomato ketchup until it gets a nice colour - then a dash of worcester sauce and a little salt and pepper) until the pasta is nicely coated.
then add a pack of defrosted prawns
 some finely chopped chives
 stir.
If you want to add more veg then sun roast tomatoes or roasted peppers are nice.0

Personally, having once had food poisoning from reheated rice, I tend to avoid rice salads at buffets/barbeques..!! I'd stick with the pasta and the cous-cous suggestions. Cook the shaped pasta of your choice, the prettier the better, drain, stick back in the pan with a good quality pesto and extra olive oil & black pepper. Serve hot or cold. Cous-cous, follow instructions on the pack but use a stock cube instead of just plain boiling water. Fluff up and add butter or olive oil. Roasted vegetables are lovely stirred through but if you don't fancy that much cooking, either in jars or in the chilled aisle, you can get packs of mixed antipasti in flavoured olive oil. Stir one of those with some of the oil through the warm cous-cous. Works equally well with pasta.
Or, why not get some in season new potatoes (cheap right no), par boil them for say, 8 minutes. Drain, add some olive oil/crushed garlic/rosemary sea-salt and black pepper, wrap them up in foil parcels. Stick the parcels on the barbeque to roast them off. Very tasty!0
