maybe try washing them on a hot wash?? like 60 degrees.
They may just stretch out again after you wear them though.0 -

I remember my mum saying that when she was younger, she used to wear new jeans in the bath to make them shrink. May be worth a go!0

Boil wash (90 degrees) but bear in mind that as stretch fabric ages, the elastic tends to age badly and either loses its stretch (and so become even bigger) or becomes brittle, this could be why they don't fit as well or it could be something that happens if you do wash them on a high temperature.
If they are a good brand (good quality I mean) they should stand up to this fine and last you a good few years, but the lower quality stuff (hate to name names but Primark, Peacocks, etc) may not fare as well and may even lose the elastic quality within the year you have bought them.
If your in love with the jeans too much to get the next size down or shop the sales, you could always try taking them to a tailor to get them fitted. May cost a bit but if the jeans are special money may not be an issue.0 -
Stop showing off! In the 60's you got into a hot bath with your jeans on I think you then let them dry on you!! That'll teach you to be such a skinny minny! This post is green for a reason!0

When I was slimming I used to tumble dry my clothes on the high heat setting to get them to shrink and give them a bit more wear.0

Boil wash at 90c but remember that a hot wash doesn't just shrink the bits you want to shrink. As mentioned already the legs may lengthen but in my experience, everything shrinks so you may end up with a pair of trousers which will fit Barbie by the time you've finished!
Whether you attempt to shrink should depend on how gutted you'll be if it doesn't go according to plan. Will you mind if they become completely unwearable? If not go for it.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
i had a pair of skinnies in the winter which were a bit nora batty around the legs and knees for the same reason- i would tuck them into long socks to hold them down and then put long boots on
