As usual Prince is a genius beating even the record companies, record stores and illegal downloaders! This way he gets a bigger share up front than he would do if he sold it via normal ways without all the usual costs that tag along with the release of an album.
Track No.10 is called Laydown and is located on track 77 (Press >> a few times if you cant programme it)
Theres a new review of the CD @ http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2010/07/07/prince-20ten-the-first-review-this-is-his-best-album-for-23-years-says-tony-parsons-115875-22386952/
Also if anyone is a big fan, there is a fan club for UK Prince fans called NPGUK on Yahoo! http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/NPGUK/

Never much liked Prince and certainly won't be making any particular effort to get this.
It was interesting though to read his views that the internet is going bust because all the "cool kids" don't use it and it isn't "hip" anymore.
He also predicted the downfall of online retailers of music (Itunes etc.) as they are also not "cool" anymore.
Then he shows just how out of touch he is by releasing his album with a newspaper. Perhaps somebody should let him know that it is in fact newspapers that are being killed off by the internet.
He may be incredibly successful but perhaps he should stick to trying to release his music rather than revealing how foolish his insights are.0 -
Bennett2Kuk, he was selling his music online to fans way before the days of Apple Itunes etc via NPGMC, however as he states the amount of money that Itunes actually gives the artist when it sells their tracks without prepayment to the artist is insulting.
With the influx of illegal downloading and file sharing without license encrpted formats means the masses just get it illegally for free.
From Prince's point of view multiple magazines & newspapers globally have paid a Prince a fee for his album which is much higher than he would recieved had he gone through a record company. The newspapers are paying for the burning & printing of all the CD's so Prince gets his fee untouched by any of the usual costs. So it doesnt matter if it makes it online within 5 mins of the first paper being released because Prince has already made his money. So he doesnt lose out to illegal file sharers or the poor payments from Itunes etc.
Whether he gives it way with a newspaper/magazine or attached to a box of frosties it works and increases sales as it did for his last Album released via the Daily Mail.
Everyone said he was crazy about releasing his music freely without a record company even more so direct to his fans via the internet now whats everyone doing?

Too right, you stick to your Kylie Minogue and Westlife albums (hide the Roger Whittaker though, they are way too embarrassing to be left lying around :rotfl:)0 -

What a load of old crap! Prince is a genius. Clearly you dont know that he has been an internet pioneer from the early days, regularly using forums and chat rooms when most other people still didnt know what the web was about. If anything maybe he's gotten bored with it - it happens to most of us who have been using the net for a long time. Because in truth very little has changed much in real terms during the past 10 years.
And actually like one other person said: Prince has been very smart. In every country where he is going to release his new album he will have done VERY lucrative upfront cash deals for the papers to secure his new release.
Simply BECAUSE the papers are yesterdays technology and now a dying industry means that they will do anything to secure bigger sales.
By having his album in their paper on Saturday they will do exactly that. Plus they are likely to be able to make new converts to buying their papers in the process.
There is no way that any record label is likely to give Prince the kind of upfront money he has probably already generated with the worldwide release of the album using this method.
Plus he gets unrivalled exposure in a national newspaper in a way that he wouldnt have got had he just released product in the way that most other artists are. The UK music industry is comepletely dead (as a DODO!) currently.
Prince has very very cleverly circumvented this and simply invented his own new market place.
Plus everyone on the web is now talking about him and it - for FREE.
No amount of money could buy that amount of PR.
PLUS The Mirror has not only given his new album a great review but also given him an exclusive interview (his first in years apparently).
This is not the work of a man who is 'out of touch' lol
AT ALL!
iTunes IS the death knell for the music industry - simply because of the extremely low price for a single. It is simply not possible on today's sales figures to cover costs when the track only costs 79p to buy (even for established global artists). The record label will get around half of that money and, depending on the artist's deal, they may get as little as 17% of the 79p themselves (about 13p per single sold!!!)
Given that its possible to get into the top ten now with sales as low as 20,000 or so that would only give them a return of £2686!! which isnt enough to cover the cost of a top end recording studio for the 5 days or so that it typically takes to record one track let alone the taxi fares there and back and money for food.
Contrary to the hype - the biggest single cost in record production is NOT the cost of CD manufacture - its the cost of recording and the living expenses of the artist so that they can actually put the time in to being creative in the studio rather than worrying about where their next meal will come from and whether the rent will be paid.
Dont believe the hype - when it comes to the Music Industry most people know sweet FA and anything that you read that pretends to is probably complete balls. (except this of course - because I do lol)0
