Could parents and siblings be asked to provide a plate of food (coordinate it so that you don't get 20 plates of sausage rolls..!!)
French stick, cheese, salad, pickles... (if you want to be really MSE, you could make your own pickles and chutneys in time for the wedding..!!)Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! sandwiches
potato wedges and sour cream dip
cheese and bacon potato skins
chinese spring rolls and nibbles with dips
chicken satay skewers
indian favourites (samosas etc) with dips
onion rings
garlic bread
we're hoping with everything being hot that it will all get eaten quickly and not have to be chucked away when 2 hours are up!
And then we're having bacon and sausage baps at midnight.
Just realised you may be talking about food after the ceremony and not for the evening?
We're having a carvery and profiteroles or fruit salad for afters @ £15 a head.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I'm not a great example I'm afraid as we are having the full works regarding the catering - canapes, 3 course meal and evening buffet! But some suggestions that did come up when we were throwing ideas around:
- Baked potatoes & various bowls of fillings
- Hog roast - as you've already mentioned
- Hot/cold buffet instead of a sit-down meal
- 'Bring and share' - something our church friends do quite often! Get everyone to bring a plate of something to share (obviously co-ordinated a bit so that you don't end up with 1000 sausage rolls and nowt else
)
- Scrap the meal entirely & have 'afternoon tea' and scones instead
- If drinks included, ask if you can bring your own; even with corkage it can often work out cheaper
Really it depends on your venue though & what you can do. Have you already booked somewhere or are you totally open to ideas? Also, depending on the timings of your day, you could just have nibbles and make it clear in invites that food will be snacks only. Generally I'm of the opinion that people are coming to celebrate your happiness, not to get a free meal

It depends on the type of venue you are thinking of but I was quoted by a fish and chip mobile van think it worked out at about £6 a head (I was put off by the plastic trays they came in but maybe you could go retro with newspaper)Moved in 12/09 Mortgage 126K0
